Outlined below are step-by-step instructions for building a data
feed, FTP-ing it onto the ONE site, importing it into the holding area, checking the data and approving it into
the production ONE catalog. If you have any questions about this process please email us or call Kathy Harris at (541)
737-8307.
- Gather your course data and use it to build a ONE catalog data feed
file. Refer to the Data Element Description page for the feed format your file will need to follow. You can use tools or program
extractions against your institutional course database or, if you don't have access to this kind of data or expertise,
you can use Microsoft Access and populate our template MS Access database and extract from there. Instructions
for doing this are provided here.
- Once you've generated a data feed file you'll need to FTP it to
the ONE webserver data collection area. You'll need a username and password to use for your institution's data
on the ONE site; contact ONE Technical
Support for this information if you don't already have it.
Using the username and password supplied to you, FTP to www.ous.edu and transfer your data file to us. The
datafile must
be named "courselist.dat" for the data import process, outlined next, to work.
- After you've FTPed the "courselist.dat" file to www.ous.edu,
log onto the ONE data import site (the URL, username and password for this area will be provided to you by ONE Technical Support group).
- Once you've logged on you'll need to select the "Load data into Holding Area"
link. This will cause the data to be fetched from the data collection area and will import it into a holding area
on the ONE database. If there are data import errors this screen will display them for you. If you need to make
corrections, repeat steps 1-4.
- If data was successfully imported you can examine the data in the
Holding Area before it's actually live in the catalog. Follow the link to "View newly uploaded data" and examine your courses as they will be in the ONE course catalog. If you need to
make corrections repeat steps 1-5.
- If your data looks just the way you want it then you need to select
the "Approve data for production" link from the login page. This will move your ONE course data from the Holding Area into the actual
ONE course catalog database, replacing all your institution's previous ONE course data.
- View your ONE course data in the catalog. You're done!
