Glossary of the data elements.

NOTE: The reference number refers to fields in the automated data feeds, however, data elements in this chart are arranged in the order of data entry into the course edit tool. Thus, the reference numbers are not in numeric order.

Element Name Definitions
3 Course Title Complete name of course (non-abbreviated). Maximum of 60 characters and spaces.
4 Course Number Maximum of 10 alphanumeric characters and spaces. Include subject designator letters and course number.
36 CRN: Course Record Number CRNs are distinct for course, term, and year. The same course offered in different terms will have different CRNs in order to automate enrollments, transcripts, billing, etc. Maximum of 8 characters and spaces.
5 Credit Hours This is a numeric-only field. Enter credit hours assigned to course. Decimal place is allowed for fractional credits. Non-credit classes should enter "0" (zero). Note: If students may enroll in the course for variable credit hours, enter the least amount of hours a student can select and add a note about variable credit in the course description.
11 Level of Study L = Lower Division (100-200)
U = Upper Division (300-400)
G = Graduate Level
N = Non-credit
C = Continuing Education Units (CEU)
P = Professional Technical
D = Professional Development
A = Adult Learning Skills/Basic Skills
6 Type of Credit Q = quarter
S = semester
N = non-credit
C = continuing education units (CEU)
22 Degree, licensing, certificate, continuing education programs Name/describe any degree, license, certificate, or continuing education credit to which this applies. Not required.
2 Subject Area of Course Choose up to six subjects. Subject Areas currently being used in the ONE database are Agriculture/Forestry; Architecture/Urban planning; Arts (Music, Art, Dance, Theater); Basic Skills; Business; Communications/Journalism; Computers/Information Sciences; Criminal Justice/Public Safety; Education; Engineering/Engineering Technologies; English Language/Literature/Writing; Foreign Languages; Health Professions (Nursing, Pharmacy, Medical); Home Economics/Foods/Nutrition; Law, Liberal Arts & Humanities/General Studies; Library Science; Mathematics/Statistics; Physical Education/Recreation and Fitness; Sciences (Biology, Physical Sciences, Environmental Sciences); Social Sciences (Psychology, Anthropology, Economics, History); Social Services/Social Work. If courses you wish to submit are not covered by this list of subject areas, please contact the ONE Technical Support staff at onetech@oregonone.org.

14 Term/Semester Offered Choose Fall, Winter, Spring, or Summer of year indicated or "Open Enrollment."

7 Course Description Narrative description of course (as for a printed catalog). Include content to be studied and optionally: course outcomes, textbooks required, any special notes about the course.
18 Special Enrollment Issues/ Enrollment Restrictions List additional requirements to enroll in course, e.g., must be RN, must have AA degree, must be admitted in program, must have permission from instructor, enrollment caps in place, specific required skills, placement tests, content area in which mastery is required, etc.
9 Course Prerequisites List number and title of prerequisite courses.
Other limitations on enrollment (e.g., permission of instructor; placement test scores; class level standing; previous degree, etc.) are listed in Category 18: Special Enrollment Issues/Enrollment Restrictions.
25 Attendance Requirements If there are any attendance requirements (e.g., proctored exams, any on-campus orientation, site-specific lab work, etc.) these should be detailed here. Otherwise leave blank.
